Went out into the backgarden today, the calendula and anemones - white, are looking lovely, they love the damp mornings and the lack of sun.
Talking of lack of sun, saw that the african violets that i had taken cuttings off are just showing new plantlets at the bottom of them...this year has been incredibly slow as the light levels have been so poor.
Next year must remember that on my cold wet clay soil the early potatoes are a dead loss, i'm better of planting maincrop potatoes and harvesting later.
Spent most of the autumn pruning back all the growth due to the long spells of rain...some of the asters or michaelmas daisies have been swamped by other things, so they're not as good as other years where i've managed to give the other plants a haircut before they've overgrown the asters...oh well.
On the plus side i have some wonderful beetroot

This is a heritage variety called Chioggia Pink, eats just like the ordinary red types.
Lovely with white sauce.
I use the leaves from beetroot as a spinach substitute, if anything they are nicer
